Mosquitoes on Che ju-do

Abstract
Mosquito surveys were carried out on Cheju island during August both in 1957 and 1961.The surveys included the collection of adult mosquitoes in the homes and multiple collections of larvae whenever found in and outside rural dwellings. The primary purpose of the surveys was the identification of the so called house frequenting mosquitoes. Specimens were collected from 30 different rural villages located at sites on the periphery of the island.
1) Through species identification, it was found that the following species are the more common ones occurring in the village areas: Culex pipiens, Aedes albopictus, Aedes togoi, Culex tritaeniorhynchus, Armigeres subalbatus, Aedes vexans, Anopheles-sinensis, Aedes hatorii (this species was found only in rockholes of the stream beds.)
2) The localized distribution of. Aedes togoi in the filarious areas such as Pyosun-ri, Namwon-ri and Seong-up etc. suggests -that this species plays a potential role as a vector in transmitting Wuchereria malayi (Malayan filariasis).
